August Update

Update from the August Meeting:

It has been a hectic month and I apologize for not sending out an update sooner. Our next meeting will be held at our normal location, Stogies Friday September 5 @ 6:00pm.

We had a great turnout at the August meeting and I hope to see an even larger one for Sept. Those of you who took home a tin of County Cork, interested in writing a quick review, please submit it to me digitally by the next meeting so I can get it posted online and sent to Sutliff.

Sutliff was generous enough to provide another 20 tins of there Kentucky burly blend "Breckenridge" so we will have plenty more free tins at the meeting.

Thank you to those who helped test the Official HPC blend. I just spoke with Russ Ouellette from Pipesandcigars and our bulk blend of "The Heights" will be available soon on their website.

We are also planning the production of a tinned option of "The Heights". It will have a custom label and our new HPC logo. A minimum order will be required to have the tins produced, but I think, with all of our efforts combined, we will be able to get the goal accomplished.

I hope to see you all soon, Have a great week and get those kids to school safely today!

Sutliff Tobacco to help sponsor the Houston Pipe Club

posted Jul 16, 2014, 10:58 AM by Corey Kelly

After speaking with John at Sutliff tobacco, he has agreed to send out free samples for our club to sample and review on a monthly basis. Our first shipment has arrived and I was shocked to see 20 sealed tins.

All he asks in return is we make an honest attempt to write reviews and post them online to our club site. I told him that our club would be glad to review the product and I was very thankful for the offer and his generosity.

If anyone is interested please let me know at the next meeting Aug 1st 2014.

Stokkebye Event was a Smashing Success

posted May 27, 2014, 10:50 AM by Corey Kelly

Wow! What a great event Stogies hosted Last Friday.

Erik Stokkebye was present with a beautiful display of pipes, carved in Denmark, and a full lineup of tobacco tins to be sampled. My favorite was the 1855 Virginia blend!

It really brightened my heart to see so many pipe enthusiasts enjoying ourselves over fine tobacco, sharing stories and offerings from our private cellars.

Congratulations to those who won the Stokkebye door prizes... the big winner of the night was Bruce, he took home a new pipe!

I hope we can continue to have awesome events like these and hope to see our numbers grow!

Wow guys, What a great turnout for the March HPC meetup I'd like to give a special thanks to our gracious hosts @ Stogies, The Pizza was excellent. My best smoke of the night was some aged Stonehaven... it really lives up to the hype :)

I hope that Aprils meeting will be as awesome as March.

Blending at home

posted Jan 15, 2014, 11:21 AM by Corey Kelly

We will be discussing techniques and results of home blending tobaccos. One of the best ways a smoker can learn about the characteristics of tobacco variety is to play around with blending.

You may discover the next best thing. Be sure and bring out some samples of your home blends to share!

February Pipe night will be full of samples.
