FINANCIAL LITERACY

The AFWA Educational Foundation supports financial literacy efforts by encouraging chapters to teach financial literacy classes at the local level. Members of the AFWA Mesa East Valley Chapter participate in financial literacy training programs to provide life changing opportunities for member of our community. Our chapter members have strong accounting and finance backgrounds and donate their time and expertise to teach financial basics including banking, budgeting and managing credit. We provide training using the FDIC's Money Smart program for adults and young adults which offer a range of modules with easy to follow instructor and participate guides.

Our chapter began our financial literacy efforts with Fresh Start, ABIL and Florence Crittenton.

Fresh Start’s mission is to empower women to transform their lives through engagement and education. Connecting Women - Changing Lives. Fresh Start Women's Foundation is an Arizona-based non-profit organization dedicated to helping empower women through the services of the Jewell McFarland Lewis-Fresh Start Women's Resource Center. This Center, the first comprehensive self-help center for women in the country, opened in October 2002 and currently provides resources to more than 2,500 women a month.

Arizona Bridge to Independent Living has been empowering people with disabilities for 30 years. Arizona Bridge to Independent Living (ABIL) is Arizona’s largest center for Independent Living. ABIL offers and promotes programs designed to empower people with disabilities to take personal responsibility so they may achieve or continue independent lifestyles within the community.

Creating new beginnings for young lives was the driving passion of Charles Crittenton, the founder of Florence Crittenton, whose life's mission was to help communities around the nation serve young women in need. That passion and commitment lives on in our mission today: Give every girl whose life we touch safety, hope and opportunity. Our mission is supported by our vision of being the national leader in changing the future for girls. We do this by: Achieving excellence in all we do, growing to serve all girls in need and being the foremost expert in gender-specific services for girls.
