TEA has posted a Letter to Administrator regarding recently signed legislation.  This bill eliminates the requirement that school districts and charter schools indicate on the high school diploma the distinguished level of achievement, endorsement(s), and performance acknowledgment(s) earned by a student who graduates on the Foundation High School Program. Please note that while this information is no longer required on the diploma, it must still be included on the academic achievement record (AAR), or transcript, for each student (Texas Education Code, §28.025(e-1)). This legislation applies beginning with high school diplomas awarded at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.  Go to and

TEA has posted changes to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program in the 2014–15 school year that will affect the 2015 state accountability system.  See link. Commissioner of Education Michael Williams has sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan seeking an extension of the state’s waiver from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). In the letter, he also notified Secretary Duncan that the state would be adding an additional year to the pilot program for the new teacher and principal evaluation and support systems. Concerned that school districts might struggle to pay for new instructional materials that are scheduled for implementation in fall of 2015, the State Board of Education voted to push its scheduled adoption of Proclamation 2016 instructional materials back by one year.
