To Participate

Mono-hull sailboat (not open to catamarans or trimarans)

At least 18 feet long

Boat Design must be 20 years or older (Boat itself can be newer, but design cannot)

 

To Benefit

Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck, Inc. (HSSNN) serving Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland Counties

 

HSSNN is a Non-Profit 501©(3) organization which was incorporated in 1987. HSSNN is a non-medical hospice which means they provide in-home support to help people with life threatening or life altering illnesses live as fully as possible in their home.  HSSNN provides incontinent supplies, dietary supplements, and medical durable equipment to their recipients.   

 

In 2016, HSSNN provided these supplies to 220 people in the Northern Neck.  HSSNN services and supplies are of NO cost to our recipients, their insurance or any government agency.  HSSNN relies 100% on money donated from the communities they serve.

An Awards Presentation will be held in the event tent as soon as results for the regatta series are available.  Overall series and Sunday Race Standings will be posted in the event tent as soon as possible.

Trophies and Prizes

Virginia Spirit Cup – Overall Winner has his boat’s name engraved each year.  Cup is currently on display at Rappahannock Yachts. 

 

John and Carole Jean McConnico Trophy – presented to the Yacht Club or Marina whose three best participant’s scores are lowest when combined

 

Doug Power Wobbly Compass Trophy --  presented to the winning wooden boat

 

Most Beautiful Boat – voted by people onboard spectator boat  

 

Turkey Shoot Participation Plaques – issued to all participants

 

Boat Slip and Two-Night Stay at Tides Inn (for next year) – awarded to the first place overall winner

 

Golden Turkey Award Burgee – may be purchased for $100 to support Hospice and flown during the race

 

Other

·       2017 is the 22nd  official Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta

·       The actual “Turkey Shoot” (not benefitting Hospice) started approximately five years previously in 1990 which makes the regatta 27 years old in 2017.

·       Is the largest Hospice regatta in the country

·       Is one of the largest regatta on Southern Bay

·       Voted “Best of the Bay” by Chesapeake Magazine for several years

·       Motto:  “Competition with Compassion”

·       Winning Skipper is invited to participate in the National Hospice Regatta each year (location varies)

·       Is sponsored jointly by the Rappahannock River Yacht Club, Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club & Ullman Sails.  Hosted by Rappahannock Yachts.

·       Is designed to showcase classic sailboats, the beauty of sailing and the skills of captains and crews

·       Is affiliated with the National Hospice Regatta Alliance
