Management of Common Symptoms

Some of the most common symptoms encountered in hospice and palliative medicine are listed below. It is important to recognize that in a large number of patients in hospice and palliative care setting these symptoms are intertwined and rarely one of them exists alone.


Appropriate management of patients in the active dying phase is of paramount significance in hospice care. Presence of these symptoms can be disturbing to family and caregivers as well as to the patient.  These signs and symptoms need to be recognized early and treated aggressively.
