Who are we?

We are a Co-Ed High School mountain biking team, dedicated to the idea that high school sport should be fun. It should offer the chance to exercise while spending time with friends and learning new skills.

We have wonderful coaches, who believe fervently in the notion that sport should be fun, and inclusive of all who wish to try it.  There are no tryouts.  No one gets cut!

The Hopkins HS Mountain Bike Team is part of the Minnesota High School Cycling League (http://www.minnesotamtb.org/), which operates under the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA - http://www.nationalmtb.org/).

Coaches Welcome Letter

Hello Riders!

If you are new to the Hopkins Mountain Bike Club, welcome! If you are a returning rider, welcome back! We are Paul and Janna Krawczyk, your new head coaches and partners with Team Coordinator Mat Edstrom and Assistant Coach Robb Korhonen. We have both been racing 25+ years in many different formats including one to 24- hour races, 100-mile gravel road races, and series races throughout the region. We have suffered the Leadville 100 on a tandem and stood on the podium at the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival in the co-ed tandem race category. We have a lot of skill and passion between the two of us, and we are absolutely thrilled to share our passion with the Hopkins Mountain Bike Club and nurture lifelong lovers of this amazing outdoor sport. Our objective this year is to build upon a community of individual riders, each with their own talents, goals, and hopes for the season, so that we may help inspire and lift each student athlete into their highest possibility. This is a dangerous and very technical sport with a lot of inherent risk associated, therefore, our main focus will be to teach SAFE and SKILLED mountain biking skills. We adhere to the National Interscholastic Cycling Association’s (NICA) five core principles of inclusivity, equity, and cultivating strong minds, bodies, and character. As well, we will emphasize a “biopsychosocial” model of youth athletic development because we believe mountain biking is not just powerful for physical development, but also psychological and social development as well.
