Our 2018 Habitat Build

posted Jun 29, 2018, 8:59 AM by Gethsemane Lutheran Church
Gethsemane has a long-standing partnership with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. Our first work project was in 2000 and since then we’ve sent crews to one or two build sites each year. This includes two Hopkins homes for which we were Contributing Sponsors. Our 2018 Work Project is Wed, Aug 8 and Thurs, Aug 9 at a Thrivent Builds with Habitat site in Minneapolis.

The Social Ministry team organizes this annual Habitat initiative and there are several different opportunities for you to be involved.  This year it is also the July Need of the Month! For a successful Work Project, we will need:

·  15 Crew to work each day

·  People to provide food for the crew

·  Volunteers to deliver the food to the site

·  Financial donors to support the work of TCHFH. Participating churches are asked to contribute $1500 a day for a regular Habitat Build. However, if it’s a Thrivent sponsored home, as is the one in Minneapolis, Thrivent donates half the required amount. Hence, GLC’s total required contribution for the two days is $1500.

How to Get Involved

Work Crew: Anyone age 16 or older is eligible. NO special skills are required, just a willingness to learn and be part of a team. Of course, it’s very helpful to have several experienced volunteers as part of each day’s crew. Invite friends, neighbors and relatives to join you! Membership at Gethsemane is definitely not a requirement for crew participation. For questions about the project or to get on the crew list, contact Donna Anderson at or 952-933-0453.

Financial donations to Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity are also greatly appreciated. Any checks should be made to Gethsemane and clearly marked for TCHFH.

Together let’s continue our support of Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing from the Twin Cities and to make decent, affordable housing for all people a matter of conscience.
