Older Adult Ministries
Services to Older Adults
Our pastors make regular visits to members in nursing homes and rehab centers, bringing communion and pastoral care. They often make follow-up calls on shut-ins who are referred by family members or caring visitors. Pastors also conduct monthly worship services at the local nursing homes where our members live.
Faith Community Nurse (FCN)
Our FCN, or Parish Nurse, specializes in professional health education and intentional care of the spirit. She is a personal health counselor and community liaison working for the holistic care of our members. She assists members in their homes, care centers, the hospital and at church, helping them address their health care concerns and transportation needs. She also provides education on health and fitness and end-of-life issues.
On behalf of the congregation and the pastors, lay members visit or call members who are generally confined to their homes or care centers. Visitors may also be trained to bring Holy Communion.
Volunteers offer phone support to members who have personal concerns, have experienced a major illness, or have been discharged from the
hospital or rehab.
Hospitality of Older Adults
The needs and accessibility of older adults was a priority in our most recent building renovation. We added another elevator and made accommodations to have more activities on one level. We continue to monitor and improve our sound system throughout the building.
Rides to Worship
Volunteers provide transportation to Sunday worship for those with lack of mobility or who don’t own a car.
Special Communion Services
Twice each year Caring Ministry volunteers and the worship staff plan a Homebound Communion Service. The service is designed for individuals who generally are no longer able to attend Sunday worship, but is open to anyone. The service is held in the sanctuary followed by refreshments in the gathering space. A strong effort is made to help as many of the homebound as possible get to this event.
CDs of the worship service are delivered by volunteers or mailed to homebound members upon request.
