Global Mission

Gethsemane has developed a partnership with Iglesia Concordia church in El Salvador. The last two years a group has traveled to El Salvador to join Pastor Gloribel Rubio and her congregation for worship, relationship-building, sightseeing, learning and service work.

Plans are underway for a July 2016 trip and the official signing of the partnership agreement with the Bishop of the El Salvador Lutheran Church and pastors from Iglesia Concordia.

We continue to look for opportunities to celebrate this partnership at GLC. This year we invited individuals and Sunday School classes to pray for the youth from Iglesia Concordia and we sold hand-painted crosses by Salvadoran artist, Christian Chavarria, to support our global ministry.

We hosted an adult education series that explained the topic of accompaniment ministry encouraged for global partnerships by the ELCA. Accompaniment focuses on relationships rooted in Jesus so that together we can see how people’s lives are touched by the gospel, how their lives are transformed and renewed and how their communities live in hope. Relationship is at the core of this model and sometimes doesn’t ever include building or doing on someone else’s behalf.
Finally, as we continue to grow our partnership in El Salvador we are tending to relationships with several churches in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area synods that also have partnerships in El Salvador. These ongoing local partnerships have been a blessing as we continue to learn about partnering with a global congregation.
