Sending and receiving email is pretty easy.  There are a lot of complete services that are available -- free.

Web Mail 

The easiest to use are web-based.  That means, once you sign up, you can check your email and send mail from any computer that's connected to the internet.   Here's a sampling:

Gmail is from Google.

Yahoo offers email.

Hotmail is from Microsoft.


Email Clients

Then thee are email clients that run on your computer and get your messages from the server that hosts your email account.

Thunderbird is a great open source email program.

Outlook Express is from Microsoft and, if you're using a Windows operating system you probably have it.
