Catalysis for Carbon Neutrality and a Sustainable Future.
The Hong Group conducts research at the intersection of organic, organometallic, and materials chemistry, with the overarching goal of advancing carbon neutrality through innovative catalytic strategies. Our work spans homogeneous, heterogeneous, and biocatalysis, focusing on the design and synthesis of new catalysts and ligands, the development of novel catalytic systems, and the discovery of transformative reactions that address key challenges in materials science and sustainable chemistry.
Our current research directions include:
• Chemically recyclable functional polymers to address pressing energy and environmental issues
• Upcycling of commodity polymers such as polyolefins, poly(vinyl chloride), and elastomers
• Carbon dioxide capture and utilization (CCU) through catalytic transformation into value-added products
Through creative catalyst design and reaction development, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable and circular chemical future.
