Lei Zhu is a Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at Tongji University. He is a recipient of the Young Changjiang Scholar Award (Ministry of Education) and the Xiaomi Young Scholar Award. He currently serves as the Assistant to the Dean of the School of Computer Science and the Head of the Large Model and Algorithm Center at the Institute of Engineering Intelligence, Tongji University.
His research focuses on spatial Intelligence, efficient multimodal learning, and brain-inspired computing, with an emphasis on world models for next-generation AI systems.
Dr. Zhu has published over 100 papers in CCF-A ranked journals and conferences, including Proceedings of the IEEE, IEEE TPAMI, CVPR, and NeurIPS. He has edited two English academic books, and his work has received 9 ESI Highly Cited / Hot Papers. His publications have accumulated 14,000+ citations on Google Scholar, with an H-index of 63.
He has received two Best Paper Award Nominations at CCF-A conferences, and one paper was selected among the “Top 100 Most Influential International Academic Papers from China.”
He currently serves as an Associate Editor for ACM TOMM and IEEE TBD, and as an Area Chair (AC) for CCF-A conferences. He is also the Deputy Secretary-General of the Youth Committee of the China Society of Image and Graphics (CSIG).
Dr. Zhu has led 10+ research projects, including grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Key R&D Program, and major projects from Shanghai municipal agencies.
His honors include the Second Prize of Natural Science (Provincial Level), Wu Wenjun AI Natural Science Award (Second Prize), and the ACM China SIGMM Rising Star Award. He has also been listed among the Stanford University Top 2% Scientists (Career Impact).
Dr. Zhu has supervised students to publish 40+ high-quality papers in top-tier venues (CCF-A conferences, ACM/IEEE Transactions, and top-tier SCI journals). Two student papers received Best Paper Award Nominations at CCF-A conferences.
