2013 Outreach

  • increase openness in application process (longer window, wider distribution, etc)
  • at the beginning of the planning process ask ourselves "who isn't around the table/being represented". this could include planners, presenters and/or presentations (considering representation through time is also good)
  • asking specific individuals for input/involvement in the content committee, specifically: ICPJ, Amanda Edmonds, Jen Fike, Eileen Dickinson
  • rotate the meeting locations to make transport easier for all
  • use conference calls to minimize need to transport
  • work with regional partners to combine the above two points, where individuals from communities could meet at a location and call in
  • work with partners and advisory committee to be invited to meetings and groups where we might outreach/recruit to groups that we don't currently directly connect to
  • have a keynote of color e.g. Malik Yakini or Eileen Dickinson
  • clearly document and post process for applicants to understand e.g. meeting dates; call for proposals; scholarship process
  • recruit presenters from communities just far enough away that participants may not visit
