Household energy monitors

SAFETY: Household energy meters should be installed by an electrician.

A sensor clip is fitted over the mains wire in the meter box and transmits the amount of current passing through the wire to a display located inside the home. The display calculates the current into power (watts), cost and greenhouse gas equivalents at any

moment in time.

Basic monitors (eg. Efergy lite, Cent-a-meter) only display real time details, while more sophisticated meters store data which can then be downloaded to software for more detailed analysis (eg. Current Cost Envi, Efergy E2, Wattson).

More complicated set ups can also monitor solar panel generation along with household consumption (Current Cost ENVI solar Wattson Solar).

Standard meters usually come with a single sensor clip. However due to the set up of the Tasmanian power supply, one sensor is required for each Aurora tarif supplied to the house (eg Light and power, hydroheat, off peak). Furthermore if the house has three phase power an addtional two sensors will be required. Understand your set up before ordering or purchasing your unit.
