Enjoying a good story. Easter services and message

Enjoying a good story. An Easter message from vicar Revd Richard Merrick.

The classic stories of good versus evil always engage us especially when we feel we know the characters personally. The Star Wars story is a classic example, it has been engaging us for nearly 40 years now, and we look forward to the next episode, but we’ll have to wait until Christmas 2017 for that.

There is another story about how good has triumphed over evil, and this one is true; and what’s more we don’t have to wait for it at all. The story of Easter, how God has defeated evil and rescued the world is our story and we are each a part of it.

Through Jesus' death on the cross on Good Friday, God took all of the brokenness of the world upon himself, past, present and future. All of the messed up things of our lives, our regrets and failures, the baggage we carry, it’s what the Bible calls sin; and God will lift all of that from us if we allow him to.

Good has triumphed over evil. Jesus didn’t just die for us though - on the third day God raised him back to life.

The Good News, for all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, is that through his death and resurrection we can each be restored into an eternal relationship with God our Creator. The story of Jesus is one of restoration, forgiveness and the promise of eternal life. This is the story that God wants each of us to be a part of, one where we know all of the characters personally and which begins the moment we turn to Jesus.

I wish you a happy and blessed Easter.
