The RCIA is a program to help people enter the Catholic Church. It is designed for adults who, after hearing the mystery of Christ proclained, consciously and freely seek the living God and enter the way of faith and conversation as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts. By God’s help they are strengthened spiritually during their preparation and at the proper time will receive the sacraments fruitfully. Men and women are invited to a life of conversion, a change for a better life, leading them to the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. This is for all who wish to be Baptized or enter the Catholic Church. The RCIA is also for those who have been baptized in another Christian faith and now seek full communion within the Catholic Church. Adults who were Baptized in the Catholic Church already may become part of this program to receive the Sacrament of the Ecuharist and Confirmation. It is also available to all who wish to find out more about their Catholic faith on an adult level. There are four distinct periods for this Spiritual Journey:
  1. Precatechumate: This is a private time for inquiring about our faith, asking God’s guidance for ones future. The seed of conversion begin to sprout.
  2. Catecchumenate: The candidate learns to live a Christian life through formation and matutity of faith. The Gospel becomes a way of life. The rite of election takes place on the First Sunday of Lent.
  3. Purification and Enlightenment: This is an intense preparation for the Easter sacraments through prayer, study of Scripture and Lenten practices. The candidates participate in the liturgies of Holy Week and receive the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil.
  4. Post Baptismal Catechesis: This time is devoted to integration into the parish community, how to become an active Church member and identifying more clearly the movement of God in their own faith journey. This ends at Pentecost.
