About the Guild

The Hollow Tree Spinners are a group of fiber artists and craftspeople based in the Illinois-Wisconsin state line area. We have the promotion and teaching of hand spinning as our primary mission, and to that end we hold monthly meetings, frequent study groups and workshops, and present an occasional public gallery show.

Meetings are typically held on the second Saturday of the month at The Fold in Marengo, Illinois, from 10 am to 3 pm. Occasionally a meeting will be held at a different location or will include a workshop on a specific aspect of fiber arts. Information about the next meeting is always included in the monthly newsletter, along with a projected calendar of meeting topics and locations for the year.

Newsletters are published in the form of an online web page, and appear monthly, a week to ten days before the monthly meeting. The most recent newsletters can be viewed via the link in the left hand column of this page.

The Hollow Tree Spinners also sponsor a mailing list in Google Groups. Subscription to the mailing list is open to anyone interested in spinning or the fiber arts, but commercial advertising is not permitted. Anyone posting "spam" may be blocked from further access at the discretion of the list managers. Announcements of events, workshops, or fiber related news are welcome, as are questions and discussion of any aspect of spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing, felting, or related crafts.

Active membership offers additional benefits, including reduced entry fees for the annual show, special rates and discounts on workshops, and requires payment of $25 in annual dues for each calendar year. New memberships started in the second half of the calendar year may be prorated. Paid members also have a vote in the selection of officers and on any activities that require significant allocation of funds from the treasury. For more information about becoming a member, or to sign up and pay your first year's dues, contact The Fold (3316 Millstream Rd., Marengo, IL 60152; telephone 815-568-5730; email thefold@mc.net)
