I chose this story because there’s a lot of rescuing in it. It is a great story of bravery and mystery; you never knew who was the one who opened the chamber until after.

Plot Summary
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets starts out with Harry going to Hogwarts. He meets up with his two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and his enemy Draco Malfoy. During that year, a lot of events took place. There’s a chamber deep in the school called the chamber of secrets, it was opened before and was said to only open when the true heir of Slytherin returned to the school. A monster was said to live in the chamber. Because of an incident where Harry talked to a snake during a duel, he was suspected of opening the chamber. Harry along with Ron and Hermione tried to prove it was Draco, but they were proved wrong. A bunch of Muggleborns, including Hermione got petrified from the monster. Ron and Harry learn that Ron’s younger sister, Ginny was taken into the chamber itself. Ron and Harry took Gilderoy Lockhart into the chamber once they found it. Lockhart split the boys up due to a memory charm that backfired. Harry went on to find Ginny. She was near death. Tom Riddle was there as a memory of himself at Hogwarts, who told Harry who he really is, Lord Voldemort. He told Harry that it was Ginny who opened the chamber. Tom sent out a basilisk after Harry, Harry took a sword that Dumbledore, the headmaster sent him and stabbed the basilisk, getting hurt in the process by a tooth from the basilisk. He took the fang and stabbed Tom Riddles Diary with it, defeating him and saving Ginny. Fawkes the phoenix cried into Harry’s wound, healing it and saving him. Harry and Ginny got Ron and Lockhart and left the chamber. Later, all the Muggleborns woke up from being petrified.
Departure
The call to adventure would probably be Ron and his twin brothers, helping Harry escape from the Dursleys after the Dursleys locked his door and put bars on his window.
I don’t think Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has the refusal of the call.
Supernatural Aid could be Ron and his brothers because they helped him escape from the Dursleys, without them, Harry would have never went back to Hogwarts.
Crossing of the first threshold, I’d say, would be when Harry and Ron couldn’t get through the barrier to platform 9¾, when the gateway sealed, they had to take an enchanted car to Hogwarts, that could be crossing of the first threshold because it’s dangerous and it’s an adventure. Harry wasn’t used to flying in a car.
The Belly of the Whale could be when Harry and Ron get to Hogwarts and are almost expelled for flying an enchanted car that Muggles could see and hurting the Whomping Willow.
Initiation
The road of trials would be when Harry was locked in his room and almost didn’t go back to school. And when Harry and Ron couldn’t get onto the platform and had to take an enchanted flying car to Hogwarts, ending up hitting the Whomping Willow. During a Quidditch match, Harry was chased by a bludger and broke his arm. Then Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for that year, made his arm like rubber. At the Dueling Club, during a duel between Harry and Draco, people found out that Harry could speak to snakes, making him most hated and untrusted in the school. Harry was blamed for the weird happenings and blamed for opening the Chamber of Secrets. Another trial would be when Hermione was Petfrified and Harry and Ron had to follow the spiders after Hagrid was arrested, almost getting eaten by Aragog’s children. Harry also had to fight against the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets while trying to save Ginny. There were a lot of trials Harry had to go through.
I don’t think there was a meeting with the goddess, none that I can think of anyway.
I think the woman of temptress wasn’t a woman, but a book - Tom Riddle’s diary. Harry got quite involved with that. He wrote in it and talked to Tom Riddle before Harry found out who Tom Riddle really was.
I don’t think there really was an atonement with the father in this one.
Apothesis was when Harry got stabbed by the fang. He was bitten by the basilisk. Harry thought he was going to die, until Fawkes started crying.
The ultimate boon was Ginny. Ginny was taken into the Chamber of Secrets. Harry and Ron went in along with Gilderoy Lockhart to save Ginny, so the ultimate boon was saving Ginny.
Return
There’s not really much of a refusal of the return, I suppose it could be that Harry was not crazy with going back to the Dursleys.
The Magic Flight could be when Ginny was in the chamber of secrets, she became the ultimate boon by pretty much being stolen by Tom Riddle. Harry, Ron and Professor Lockhart went into the chamber and got separated due to a memory charm backfiring. Harry went on and found Ginny. He also found out that Tom is actually Voldemort and battled the basilisk. Harry destroyed Tom Riddle's diary which destroyed the memory of Tom. Ginny woke and they ran back up the chamber. They found Ron and Professor Lockhart and escaped from the chamber.
For the Hero from Without, I’d say it was probably Fawkes, the phoenix. When Harry killed the basilisk with the sword of Gryffindor, a fang from the basilisk pierced his arm. He only had a few minutes to live, but Fawkes showed up and cried into the wound and healed it.
The Return the Threshold would be on the train on the way back to platform 9¾.
The Master of Two worlds would be because Harry was comfortable in the Wizarding World and at Hogwarts and he is comfortable in the Muggle world also, so he’s the master of two worlds.
Harry has the Freedom To Live, knowing that he gave Ron his phone number so he could call him and knowing that he’d come back to Hogwarts in just a couple months.
Final Thoughts
By doing this project, I experienced a lot and learned a lot. I experienced what it would be like to be a hero. I loved learning about the different stages there are as well as what happens in each stage and the different ordeals that the hero has to go through. My story followed Joseph Campbell’s hero quest really well. There were some differences (some stages that might not have been in it), but other than that, I think for the most part, it followed his hero quest. There are a couple movies that I can think of that has elements of the Monomyth, The Lion King 1 and 2 does and I’m thinking of Aladdin. I’m not 100% sure how accurate Aladdin fits under the elements of the Monomyth though.
