Abstract: »The crime of ravishment changes in legislation between the Aragonese fueros of 13th century when it was equivalent to the rape and the Cortes of the 15th century where it ceases to be limited to violent abductions. The Aragonese law finally admits the consensual ravishment. the evolution is under pressure from clandestine marriages whose validity upset the authority and consent of the families. The trials demonstrate the varied use of the crime of rape to describe different kinds of abduction, not always in a sexual or marital purpose. The ravishment can be the abduction of a man for unpaid debt or a child in retaliation against his family. But all have a common denominator : the crime of raptus is described as a crime of theft. Finally, the most striking development in Aragon takes place in the 16th century with the ravishment of free person in urban statutes. The question is whether this last sort of abduction is only for men or not.« (Source: Estudis)
