Additional Information

Abstract: »The article focuses on the case of two Chinese laundrymen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who were accused of molesting young girls in 1989 and the consequential race riots, mob violence and journalistic coverage of the case by the newspapers Milwaukee Sentinel and the Milwaukee Daily Journal. The author emphasizes that the articles pertaining to the case published by both newspapers displayed bias relating to the diverse public opinions towards the Chinese of the white population of the city. The author discusses the eventual reversal of the Chinese men's convictions due to a revision of Wisconsin rape statutes that occurred shortly before they were arrested.« (Source: EBSCOhost)
