Note: »The lawyer and former NSW upper house MP's self-published book Life As A Sentence: The True Story Of The Janine Balding Murder led to him being sued by two of the former detectives on the case, John Carroll and Kevin Raue. The perils of self publishing mean he has been forced to write to hundreds of people he sent preview copies to, including this column, asking for their return in a supplied reply-paid envelope.
"As part of the settlement, I have agreed to attempt to recover the approximately 250 copies of the preview edition of the book I published, including the copy I sent you," Breen writes. "I would be most grateful in the circumstances if you could return your copy of the book in the enclosed reply paid envelope so that it can be forwarded to the solicitors acting for the former detectives who wish to have the book destroyed".
In 2006, Breen was forced to resign from the ALP by the former premier Morris Iemma for declaring in the book his support for one those convicted over the case, Stephen "Shorty" Jamieson.« (Source: The Sydney Morning Herald)
