Memory
Memory is a living phenomenon, something in perpetual evolution, whereas history... is a scholarly and theoretical reconstruction... Memory at times lives on in a religious or sacred key; history is critical and secular. Memory is subject to repression, whereas nothing in principle lies outside the historian's territory.
