Mission: Support and Expand Sustainable School Garden Programs Statewide
Background: The State of Hawaii Department of Health hosted the first Hawaii School Garden Taskforce Meeting on May 31, 2012 at Kapiolani Community College. The purpose of this meeting was to bring together public, private and community agencies to share highlights and successes of existing school garden programs and identify priorities for policies, programs and resources to support and expand sustainable school garden programs statewide.
As a result of the meeting, four working groups were formed: (1) Capacity Building, (2) Policy & Advocacy, (3) Professional Development, and (4) Research & Evaluation. For more information about each of the groups, please see the associated sites in the sidebar. A summary of the first meeting activities can be found in the report titled, Hawaii School Garden Taskforce Report.
