Bio

I am Associate Professor of political science at the Institute of Social Science, University of Tokyo. Before joining the Institute of Social Science in 2024, I taught and/or conducted research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Department of Political Science; visiting post-doctoral research fellow), the University of Tokyo (Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; Project Lecturer), and Hitotsubashi University (Graduate School of Social Data Science; Associate Professor). I received a Ph.D. from University of Tokyo in 2017. My research focuses on political representation, particularly electoral systems, voting behavior, and legislative institutions, and political methodology, especially causal inference. I am currently working on developing methodologies that embrace complexities of our world while rendering them statistically tractable, thereby advancing our discipline toward real-world problem-solving. My current projects include developing methodologies for incorporating machine learning predictions into statistical analysis and conducting and interpreting the analysis with a continuous treatment variable.
