About the Author

E.P. Wixted was born in Queensland, Australia in 1927 and saw service during WWII.  From an early age he had an intense interest in Pioneer Aviation.  He was involved in the recovery of Smithy's "Southern Cross Minor" from the Sahara Desert.

In 1983 he led an expedition to Aye Island, Burma to search for the missing Smith and his aircraft the "Lady Southern Cross".  Ted Wixted was a noted Hinkler historian and writer, three of his publications are offered in the Hinkler News. 

E.P. Wixted passed away on 17th May 2001.
