Before the stint in New York, Hilary had studied Canon Law up to the doctorate at the renowned Pontifical Lateran University and Ecclesiastical Jurisprudence to diploma at Pontifical Urban University, both in Rome-Italy. He graduated Summa cum laude - First class honours, with thesis fully published on "Force and Fear in Relation to Matrimonial Consent [can.1103]: A critical consideration of the situation among ethnic nationalities - special reference to Nigeria."

He has other publications: The Sorrows Of a Nation (1991); The Clay-Footed Giant (2008); Force and Fear in Marriage Consent, Vol. I: From Historical Issues to Canonical Imperatives (2008); Force and Fear in Marriage Consent, Vol. II: From Socio-Cultural Factors to Pastoral Societal Challenges (2008); and other articles in local and international journals.

Passion for holistic human development, equity and social justice for all mankind drives him on still as to undertake continuous research and study in this field. He wishes himself and all GDSJ 2007 cohorts - with whom he celebrated the commencement exercise in July 2009 - huge success.
