Competitions



The Club is affiliated with the Parramatta District Junior Rugby Union, along with other village clubs from Blacktown, Dundas Valley, Liverpool, Merrylands, and Norwest. To see all the modified rules for Mini’s and juniors please visit http://www.rugby.com.au/tryrugby/KidsRugby/KidsPathway.aspx


Minis (Under 6s – Under 9s)



The Mini’s age group play in a weekly competition on Saturday mornings, in 2012 we saw our teams playing in both the Western Sydney and Eastwood Mini’s Competitions and we envisage this to continue in 2013. Our Mini’s all train together on a Friday night (exact times will be advised by your coach/manager), and also open the canteen and run a sausage sizzle.


Juniors (Under 10 – Opens)



The Under 10’s to Opens are our Juniors and they play in the Sydney Juniors Competition. In the 2013 season the Under 10’s/11’s/12’s will play in the Saturday Competition. The Under 13’s/14’s/15’s/16’s will play in the Sunday Competition. An Opens team will depend on interest received. Our Junior teams train on various nights and your coach/manager will advise you.



In addition to the regular competition, there is a representative program available in the Under 10s – Under 17s age groups. Please talk to your coach or the committee should you wish to try out for a representative team.


Seniors



This season Hills Rugby will be playing in the 3rd Division Sydney Suburban Rugby Union Competition. In 2013 the club will be fielding 4 grades plus a Colts (Under 21s) team. Seniors play on a Saturday and train Mondays and Wednesdays. For more information about playing seniors please contact Craig Brinnand on 0413 871 484.


Uniform



· Red and Black Jersey (supplied by the club)

· Black socks with red tops (free to new players, also available to purchase for $15)

· Club Shorts (mandatory from Under 8’s and above available from the club for $25) Under 6/7’s will need to have black shorts but are also welcome to purchase club shorts if they wish.

These are to be worn during all games. No Excuses


Other Club Merchandise



The club has a range of merchandise for sale including polo shirts, caps, training jerseys, hoodies, headgear and this year we are introducing a gear bag to our range.

All these items are available to purchase from the clubhouse or in the case of the hoodies and headgear by placing an order.




Mouthguards/Protection



From Under 8’s and above mouth guards are required to be worn by all players. Your local dentist can usually provide you with custom fitted mouth guards, or there are more basic ones that you can mold yourself which are available to purchase at sports stores, or the chemist. The club also has some mouth guards for sale from the clubhouse at the beginning of the season.



For players which choose to wear Head Gear, Shoulder Pads etc, all items must have the IRB approval logo.

Draw



Minis: We expect that the Mini’s will be participating in both the Western Sydney and Eastwood competitions this season. Hills Rugby will provide a consolidated draw for our teams once both draws have been received from the competition managers.



The draw may come out in a few stages to allow for clubs to finalise team numbers and also to align where possible to the juniors draw.



Juniors: The Juniors draw is managed by Sydney Juniors and is released in sections during the year. Generally speaking the first 4 weeks will be released at the beginning of the season, and then the remaining draw will be done in one or more sections.



When draws are received by the club they are sent out to all team managers who will distribute them to the players. If you do not receive a copy of the draw please ask your manager first and then a committee member.

Player of the Match


Each week a player from each team will receive the player of the match trophy/award. In the Mini’s each player from the team will receive the trophy at least once over the season, as the purpose of these awards is to encourage each players own milestones, not just the best player every week. In the Juniors it is left up the Coach and Manager as to how best to encourage their players each week through an award.

Website and Communications



The club has been developing a new website in the off season www.hillsrugby.com.au. Information is still being added to this site, but the start of this season the site will be fully operational and will be updated regularly during the season.



Last season the Club trialed a Facebook page for the under 6/7’s age groups, this season we are expanding this to all Mini’s and Junior’s. You can find us by searching “Hills Junior Rugby Union”. We are still in the process of determining how best to manage the information from the site. If you are interested in being an admin for you age group please let your manager know.



There is also a Monthly Newsletter that gets sent to all players via email after the Club’s Monthly meeting. Make sure you give it a read as it contains the latest news and events that are happening within our club.



Coaches/Managers will also stay in contact with their teams on a weekly basis with reminders about training, games and other upcoming events.



If you have an email address or mobile that is currently unknown to us or changes please advise your manager and the committee as soon as possible to ensure you receive up to date information.



Wet Weather



In the case of wet weather your manager/coach will contact you with the details regarding whether training/games are still going ahead.


Training:

If council closes the ground training is not allowed to go ahead.



Games:

Games maybe transferred to another location where possible as other councils may have their grounds open. Please do not assume that games are cancelled just because the ground is closed, wait for your manager/coach to contact you.



Where the council has advised that grounds are open at the clubs discretion the committee will let all coaches and managers know whether they are allowed on the ground for training or games. There is a link on the Home Page of our website to The Hills Shire Council wet weather information page.



If the council closes the ground the club is NOT allowed to use the ground under any circumstances.
