Club History

Establishment

On 2nd April 1959 a public meeting was called by Parramatta District Junior Rugby Union Club representatives Mr Peter Jackson and Mr Eric Tweedale at Castle Hill public school. Eighteen citizens attended this inaugural meeting where Mr Gil Swinbourne was elected acting President, Mr Gregory acting Secrectary and Mr Wild acting treasurer. The name" HILLS Disrict Junior Rugby Union Club" was chosen and the object of the club was "to give all interested boys the chance to learn the game and to give all the opportunity to play the game".

The next meeting a week later saw Bro Damien & Bro Gregory from Oakhill College attend which saw them agree to an inter-district competition. All though Oakhill students were not encouraged to play for the new Club, Oakhill extended an invitation for two teams to play against the College on Saturday 18th April 1959.

Membership fees were charge at 10/-shillings per year. The 1959 treasurers report advised that the club had 6pound 16 shillings cash in hand.

The constitution was adopted in July 1959.

Clubs Colours & Emblem

On behalf of PDJRU Mr Eric Tweedale advised a set of Rugby jerseys would be donated and suggested the Club order another set at 30/-shillings.
**Regrettably there is no official record of how our traditional colours Red & Black originated.
It has been suggested that a devoted Norths supporter had a influence in the selection of colours. The Waratah emblem was also adopted for the club.

Finding a home ground

The Club set out to find a home ground.Baulkham Hills Shire Council was approached and gave permission for the use of Baulkham Hills Park(now Ted Horwood Res). The ground was prepared for use however vandals with cars tore up the ground and it was never used. It was then decided that the ground was to isolated and other alternatives were sort.
In 1960 goal posts were erected and a temporary playing field marked out at Castle Hill Showground. Eventually Council allocated Yattenden Oval John Street, Baulkham Hills.
The first games played on Yattenden were on Saturday 6th May 1961.

The following HILLS players have gone on to play for the Wallabies.

Club Championships

Hills Rugby have been successful during these years
in taking out the Club Championship.
The points received by every team in general play
each week (win, loss, draw)
are added together to get the overall club points.
