HILLBROOK POOL GENERAL INFORMATION - Revised May 30, 2017
 

POOL ADMISSION

  1. Full payment of annual dues is a requirement for admission to the pool. Annual dues MUST be paid no later than the pool’s opening date.
  2. Failure to pay dues could result in permanent revocation of privileges.
POOL HOURS
  1. Unless otherwise noted, 1.the pool will be open 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Monday-Thursday, 10:00 am to 9 pm on Friday-Saturday, & 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday..
  2. Pool closing for swim meets or practices will be posted on Hillbrook Pool’s bulletin board and web site.
  3. Pool closing due to bad weather will be at the discretion of the pool manager or the lifeguard on duty.
  4. Permission to use the pool for special groups during pool hours (baseball teams, birthday parties, etc.) must be obtained from the Social Chair and placed on the calendar. Pool party rules are posted on the bulletin board and web site.
  5. Use of the pool after hours must be approved and scheduled by the Board of Directors.
GUEST RULES
  1. Each member must register his or her guests upon entering the pool enclosure and pay a fee of $5.00. There will be no charge for out-of-town guests (outside Spartanburg County) provided they have been identified by an adult member only, either in person or by a telephone call to the pool in advance of their arrival.
  2. Members or the members’ family must accompany guests. Members are responsible for the conduct and safety of their guests. Guests must meet all requirements set by the pool and shall be subject to all pool rules.
  3. No person shall be a guest more than five (5) times during the swim season. This does not apply to out-of-town guests.
  4. Baby sitters may accompany a pool member’s children only after they have notified the pool manager. They are subject to all requirements and rules.
GRIEVANCES
  1. Grievances regarding pool operation should be directed to the LPO or a member of the Board of Directors. If necessary, any pool member may address the Board at any meeting.
  2. Grievances dealing with unbecoming conduct or a rule infraction can be discussed with any Board member.
SAFETY
  1. No one is permitted in the pool unless lifeguards are on duty.
  2. In case of impending storms, our certified lifeguards follow the American Red Cross and the National Lightning Safety Institute (NSLI) guidelines. At the first sound of thunder OR sighting of lightning, the lifeguards will clear the pool for thirty (30) minutes. Each additional rumble or sighting resets the clock.
  3. The use of the wading pool is restricted to children five (5) and under. This area is solely the responsibility of the parents whose children are using the wading pool.
  4. Any child under the age of five (5) is required to have an adult with them in the dive well of the pool unless they have demonstrated the ability to swim the length of the pool.
  5. Any child who needs a swim aid (Swimmies, life jacket, etc.) must be kept within arm’s reach of an adult or a responsible party age 12 or older.
  6. No one shall be in the diving well unless able to swim the length of the pool or accompanied by an adult; at any time, the lifeguard may require anyone to demonstrate such ability.
  7. Children under the age of 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult or a responsible party 15 or older who has passed the above swim test. Any child who has not passed the above requirement (Safety 6) must remain in the care of an adult at all times.
  8. Metallic toys, breakable objects, chairs, or any such items are not permitted in the wading pool.
  9. The lifeguards must approve the use of any swimming equipment. Small floats, beach balls, Nerf balls, fins, masks, etc. are permitted. The lifeguard has the right to remove these items at his or her discretion if misused or if the pool is crowded.
  10. Only one person is permitted on the diving board at a time. Shark or any other game must stop for a diver.
  11. Running, ducking, pushing, or other horseplay in or out of the water is prohibited. Chicken fights and pyramids are also prohibited.
  12. No glass containers of any kind shall be brought into the pool enclosure. Lotion, etc. must be carried in unbreakable containers.
  13. No one, other than lifeguards, will be permitted on the lifeguard stands.
  14. No one will distract the lifeguards with unnecessary conversation while they are on duty (this includes not congregating around the lifeguard stand).
  15. All personal injuries, regardless of how slight must be reported immediately to the lifeguard on duty.
  16. Only authorized personnel allowed in the guard room.
  17. The maximum number of swimmers allowed in the pool at any time is 380.
  18. Alcohol may only be consumed in accordance with Article 4-1 of the Hillbrook Pool By-Laws (rev.2/11/10). Alcohol must be contained in cups and no glass containers are allowed on pool premise.  No person under the influence of alcohol or drugs should use the pool.
  19. Lifesaving equipment and a first aid kit are kept in the lifeguard office located in the bathhouse building.
  20. An emergency phone is located outside the lifeguard office. Dial 9-1-1.
HEALTH
  1. Each person must take a shower before entering the pool.
  2. No person having an obvious communicable disease, skin eruptions, fungus, infection, eye-ear-nose or throat infection, diarrhea or nausea shall be permitted in the pool area.
  3. There will be no spitting or nose blowing in the pool.
  4. No pets will be permitted on the premises at any time.
  5. This is a non-smoking facility.
  6. Any child that is not potty trained is required to wear swim diapers in both the large pool and in the baby pool.
AUTHORITY OF THE STAFF
  1. Any lifeguard may dismiss from the pool area any person who infringes the rules, exhibits unbecoming conduct, uses indecent language, or fails to show evidence of his/her right to use the pool when requested. A record shall be kept of such dismissal.
  2. For minor offenses, the lifeguard on duty may ask a swimmer to sit out of the water for a period of time. If, after this time any misconduct continues, the person may be asked to leave the pool area for the day. The recurrence of such infringements will result in lengthier suspension of pool privileges.
  3. A lifeguard may prohibit diving when in his/her judgment conditions warrant it.
  4. Lifeguard decisions are final.
RESPONSIBILITY
  1. The Corporation assumes no responsibility for the possessions of users of the property.
  2. It shall be the responsibility of each member and their guests to dispose of all food containers, cups, trash, etc. in the containers provided.
  3. Lost and found items should be placed in the designated area.
  4. All pool members are requested to take proper care of pool equipment. Any damage to such items will only cost the membership.
  5. It is the responsibility of all who use the pool for the swim season to help the Board and Staff make each swim season an enjoyable time for all.
SWIMMING LESSONS
  1. Swimming lessons at various levels for children may be offered throughout the pool season. Watch the bulletin board and web site for information.
Hillbrook Pool Policies

Babysitter Policy:
An individual with a paid family membership may have a babysitter bring the children listed on the membership. The Parent must list the babysitter on the application. No guests will be admitted on the membership while the babysitter is with the children, and only one sitter per visit per membership is allowed. If the parents are present at the pool, the sitter will be considered a guest and fees will apply. The sitter will be expected to adhere to all pool rules and be actively involved in childcare while at the pool. If all the children on the family membership are of age approved to be at the pool by themselves (rising 7th grade through college), a babysitter may not be added to the membership unless approved by the board for transportation, special needs, or other considerations.

Swim Lessons Policy:
All swimming instruction shall not interfere with members’ normal use of the pool. 

1)      Within reason, members may give swim lessons to nonmembers without paying a guest fee.  The member offering a swim lesson must be qualified for swim instruction.
2)      A paid member can receive a swim lesson or swim training from a nonmember without paying a guest fee for the instructor / trainer.

Advertising Policy:
Any advertising to be placed on the pool property including the bulletin board must be approved by the Hillbrook Pool Board.
