Hiking Club of Western Australia

What we do

The HIKING CLUB OF WA aims to provide recreational walking and associated activities in both suburban and country areas for exercise, for an appreciation of our natural surroundings and for social interaction with a friendly group of people

New to walking?

Are you thinking of walking with our group, but a bit nervous about getting started?  Maybe worried that you won't keep up with us?  That's fair enough.  Our Moderate/Hard walks in the hills will be easing off once the warmer weather arrives - about the end of November.  But our ongoing program will have a number of Easy and Easy/Moderate walks for you to try out, so this is a good time to get into practice and start walking with us

Our walks

Coming into Summer, the weather is expected to warm up rather rapidly and where there are those days that make it unpleasant to walk, we will arrange for a Social occasion, so as to keep the group connected

All walks are held on Saturdays throughout the year.  These usually take place within 100 km of Perth and include National Parks such as John Forrest, Yanchep, the Avon Valley, Jarrahdale and Serpentine, as well as following little known pathways through suburban parks, along the banks of rivers and streams, beach areas (popular in summer) and historical suburbs such as Subiaco and Shenton Park

Our walks are graded from EASY to EASY/MODERATE to MODERATE to MODERATE/HARD and can cover distances from 8 km to 20 km maximum, over a reasonable period of time. Throughout the year, we walk through many different types of terrain, from FLAT to UNDULATING to STEEP HILLY AREAS

Walks are always interesting.  It's amazing how many beautiful spots that are rarely visited.   From experience, we know of many great walks, some of which you would surprise you!  With us, you may discover places you have never seen

A friendly social air is maintained throughout our activities and occasionally a great coffee place, a meal at a cafe or a scenic picnic spot in the hills may be included in the activity

About Us

The HIKING CLUB OF WA (Inc) - a member Club of the Bushwalking Federation of WA - was formed in September 2001 to meet the needs of those walkers who preferred to do their recreational activities on a Saturday

We are a friendly group of walkers who are keen to welcome people from 18 years and onwards

Our membership ranges from those in their early 40's to those in their mid 70's

We are a social walk and talk group, who prefer an easy to moderate walking pace and terrain, though we list more challenging walks at times.  We are always keen to welcome new faces along on our Easy and Easy/Moderate walks and Social activities, whatever your level of fitness may be
