Gill Thompson

I am a retired maths teacher, having taught at Forres Sandle Manor for 30 years as Head of Maths.
My interest in wood began with making strategy games, toys and puzzles to use in class. From this, my interest in wood and the fantastic properties of the different hardwoods and softwoods began.
At local craft fairs and shows I was intrigued by the wonderful walking sticks made, using antler, buffalo horn and bone, and the different shanks used - Hazel, holly, apple and superb blackthorn. I decided to have a go myself - prompted by one of my labradors bringing me a beautiful antler while out walking in the New Forest.
