DARBY ORCHESTRA TUTORS (DOT) IS BACK!

posted Sep 9, 2015, 6:13 AM by Sara Given

FREE After School Tutoring Program with Darby Orchestra Musicians - Starting this Thursday!

We are fortunate to have members of the Darby Orchestra Program volunteer to come to Heritage each Thursday after school to work with Heritage students.

Each Thursday from 2:40-3:15, Darby Orchestra Tutors will be available to Heritage students for one on one and small group tutoring. Heritage students may use this time to work on whatever they like, orchestra music, playing test material, learning to fiddle, pop songs, etc.

Taking advantage of this program is easy!

#1-  Reserve a spot on SignUp Genius (spots will be served on a first come, first serve basis)
#2 - Arrange for transportation home from Heritage at 3:15
#3 - Go to the orchestra room (rm.157) after school on Thursday and be ready to play!

(We currently do not have any bass tutors available tomorrow. This is subject to change - check back at the end of the day)

HMSO Beginning of the Year Info - 2015-2016

posted Aug 21, 2015, 12:32 PM by Sara Given   [ updated Aug 22, 2015, 6:01 PM ]

Beginning of the Year FAQ's for HMSO Musicians:

When will we need instruments?

We will assign lockers on Tuesday and Wednesday and hope to play on Thursday, August 21st.
Violinists and violists, please bring in your home instruments by Thursday.  I will provide locks.
Cellists and bassists will be assigned school instruments during this time.

Do we need our Essential Elements books?

Cadet and Concert 2: Please bring Essential Elements Book 1 for review.  You will need to purchase Book 2 by September.
Concert 1: Please bring Essential Elements Book 2.  You will need to purchase Book 3 by September.

Do we need any other supplies?

Please make sure you have the following: rosin, an extra set of strings, a cloth for wiping your instrument clean, a tuner or tuning app (iPads!), and a music stand to practice at home.  (Propping your music up on your dog/bed/younger sibling is not acceptable.  It damages your posture and your dog has better things to do).

Is it true that being in orchestra is the best thing on the entire planet and I will not only grow as a musician but also become a better human being?

Why yes, it is!  Check out last year's highlights: HMSO 2014-2015 Year in Review

That was a fun video.  What should I do now?
