Herpes Zoster is a kind of acute herpetic skin infection caused by herpes zoster virus.
The attack of shingles is quick and abrupt. The virus usually affect one of the large nerves that spreads outward from spine, causing pricking pain, nervous pain, burning sensation, with groups of crowded blisters and itching on the local affected skin in a band around one side of the chest, waist & abdomen or head, face, neck, and along one of the lateral nerve distributive area in a belt-like arrangement.
There is obvious pain on the affected part of the skin, and it is even more serious for old-aged patients.
After subsidence of the skin lesion, neuralgia pain will still remain. The course of the disease least a few weeks.
Shingles can affect anyone who has had chickenpox.
However, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to get shingles.
People with weakened immune systems include those who have had a bone
marrow or organ transplant; have cancer, especially of lymph system; or
are infected with HIV.
