The Strongest Criteria on Animal Testing

For more than three decades, we have been dedicated to a business philosophy that advances animal welfare. We have stood consistently against animal testing and pioneered a powerful, ethical standard that could eliminate animal testing for cosmetic purposes on a global scale.

On September 27th, 1976, Beauty Without Cruelty adopted a strong and meaningful criteria of "no animal testing", known as the Fixed Cut-Off Date Policy. This means Beauty Without Cruelty rejects the use of all new ingredient developed after this date, as it is estimated that 80% of animal testing for cosmetics is performed to bring newly-invented ingredients to market. Though many products today boast of "no animal testing," often this refers only to the finished formula, and not the ingredients. Some cosmetic companies have adopted a Sliding Five-Year Policy, not using a new ingredient for five years. But this only delays the use of a tested ingredient and does not prevent animal cruelty.

If the Fixed Cut-Off Date Policy was adopted by all cosmetic companies, the ingredient manufacturers and testing facilities would be forced to use only safe and reliable, non-animal tests. This is our goal.
