French Breakfast Puffs

1/3 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk

Topping:
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 Tablespoons butter, melted

1.  Beat butter, 1/2 cup sugar, and egg at medium speed with a mixer until creamy and well blended.
2.  Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
3.  Alternate adding flour mixture and milk to the sugar mixture beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
4.  Beat at low speed until blended after each addition.
5.  Spoon into greased muffin pans (miniature or regular size) a little over half full.
6.  Prepare topping by mixing sugar, cinnamon and butter together.
7.  Spoon an equal amount of topping over each of the muffins.
8.  Bake in a 350°F preheated oven for 14-16 minutes for mini muffins, or 20-25 minutes for larger muffins.
Yields about 28 mini muffins, or 12 larger muffins
