Tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery

Front, row; David Phillips. Back row, left to right: Tour Guide - Joanne Mitchell, Ann Es-posito, Kathleen Rick, Emerson Ekstrom, Barb Eckert, George Miller. Not pictured: John Esposito and Janice Pryll –PhotographerJoanne showed us monuments and gravesites of famous Rochester residents’ in ad-dition to telling their stories and accomplishments during their lifetime. She also pointed out unusual trees in the cemetery. There are many; they are beautiful; and ……...HUGE! If you are curious, check them out. http://www.fomh.org/Hello All-

It seems that every time I drive by Mt. Hope Cemetery, I think, "I should go on a tour of this place!". Well, my, and your, chance has come! One of the cemetery guides has offered to give the Club a private, free tour on October 6th at 10AM. The plan is to meet at the north entrance (NOT the one across from The Distillery) on Mt. Hope Avenue. As you drive in, go straight ahead, pass the fountain and park near the old stone chapel. We will walk roughly 2 miles and the tour will take about 2 hours. Joanne, the guide, suggested bringing a fold-up stool, if you'd like to take a break as we stop at various points. She also has a couple of stools that she's willing to loan out.

If you'd like to meet at the Town Hall at 9:30 to carpool, please let me know so that we can watch out for you.

Hope to see you then,

Harris Trial Garden Tour

We had nine members at the tour. It was a hot day but we enjoyed the tour and learned a lot. Thanks, Harris!

August 28th from 2-4pm - Harris Seeds Demo Gardens

The tour will include ornamental and veggie gardens. Let me know if you'd like to do this, and we'll arrange a carpool for this also. And, good news from Harris! They will repeat the seed starting workshop for us in February! Everyone seemed to enjoy the last one and, personally, I have the most beautiful petunias and zinnias ever, and I grew them myself!!!

Tour of Harris Seed Factory - February 2/18/2013

Great turn-out at Harris Seeds today! Our tour guides suggested that we might like to "trial" their grafted tomatoes. Here is the information that I received with links to the various options - the plants will cost about $2 each. Please let me know what type (s) and how many you might be interested in and I'll order them. This sounds like a fun project!

Thank you for joining us for this morning’s tour; it’s fun to share our business with such an engaged group. Here is a link to an overview of our Grafted Heirloom Tomato trial program. You can choose 36 Strip Trays of Brandywine and/or Mr. Stripey grafted tomatoes, or a 15 Plant Grafted Transplant Combo Pack, which includes 3 plants each of Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, Mr. Stripey, Old German, and San Marzano. I’m guessing the 36 Strip trays would work better for your group, so that gardeners can compare performance of the same varieties at multiple locations. But it’s up to you!

Marlow's Orchid Open House 1/26/2013

Twelve Club members were treated to a greenhouse full of beautiful orchids, great food and warm camaraderie on Saturday at Marlow Orchids. It was a crisp, sunny day so the green-house and the cozy Marlow home were welcome retreats! Several of us bought orchids, including one that we donated to the Glen! After a tour of the orchid collection, we had the pleasure of dining on an extensive array of foods and enjoyed each others company in the Marlow Family Room. Jim Marlow has offered to give us a tour in the spring of his yard complete with an orchid informational and a repotting demo.
