On June 4th, 2009 (the so-called sensitive date in China due to The Tiananmen Square protests in 1989) , my mother, Yao-Hua Li, and youngest sister, Yi-Bo Zhang were illegally abducted at home by Chinese local policemen and 610 officers (610 office is a Gestapo-like organization responsible for persecuting Falun Gong) for their spiritual belief, Falun Gong. They not only broke in without proper warrant, but also seized many valuable personal possess. Currently, my mother and sister are still held in detention center for over 13 months and no family visits are allowed so far. On March 18, 2010, the Chinese Communist Party (the CCP) put them on trial because they would not give up their belief in Falun Gong. On March 31, 2010, my mother was sentenced to jail for 3 and a half years, and my sister for 1 and a half years.

 

Yao-Hua Li, my mother, is 63 years old. She is a Hong Kong resident who lives in Lu Wan District in Shanghai City. She was suffering server back pain due to her inherent spinal disease. Sometimes, the back pain is so severe that she couldn’t walk for days. In 1996, all that has changed as she started to practice Falun Gong. The spinal disease was quickly healed and no more unbearable back pains. After personally witnessed the healing power, she has been practicing Falun Gong ever since. However, since the day of her arrest, she was not allowed to practice on the regular bases. And that results in the failing of her health. Not only the disease once cured by practicing Falun Gong came back, but it triggered sciatic nerve disease and neck pains. Her blood pressure (systolic) was over 200, her heart is failing, and she can only stand on her own momentarily. The family members had requested for her temporarily release due to medical reason multiple times and were either denied or ignored by the CCP.

 

Yi-Bo Zhang, my sister, has a master degree in management. At age 30, she has worked for Siemens Shanghai Branch for over 8 years as a financial manager and has a successful career. However, her career ended due to the eleven month long detention. During the time, the policemen used sleep deprivation method to interrogate and tried to force her to give confession. 

People in China have the right to believe and practice Falun Gong as religious freedom is protected by Chinese Constitution.  The central discipline of Falun Gong, truthfulness-compassion-tolerance, not only is harmless, but is able to raise morality standards and change people’s mind and behaviors for better. Falun Gong practitioners should not be treated the way they are in China. The persecution is against Chinese Constitution, illegal, and should be stopped.

 

The international community, including U.S.,  have taken their own actions on ending the persecution: on March 16, 2010,  the U.S. House of Representatives voted 412–1 to call for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China; a judge in Argentina recently ordered the arrest of China’s former leader, Jiang Zemin, and another top official for crimes against humanity in the long-running persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual discipline; and in Spain, five high-ranking Chinese officials have been indicted for genocide and torture of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

 

Please take your own action! Help immediately release my mother and sister.
