Hi, my name is Angel, and this is my tale.
I'm a Border Collie mix, and this November I'll be two years old! Just about this time last year, I was getting ready to be a Mommy for the first time! Unfortunately, my owners just weren't ready to be doggy grandparents... They ran me over with the car, and they left me in a parking lot.
When they hit me with the car, they broke my left front leg and shoulder. With no one to take care of me or take me to the vet, my leg healed on it's own the best it could... For lack of a better explanation (after all, I was just a puppy at the time!) my left front leg is permanently in the "shake" position. Don't worry though, I can't feel it much anymore.
I got lucky and a nice old man did his best to take care of me. He fed me as best he could, but I had to find my own shelter. A rescue in Arkansas convinced him to let me go with them, and I had my puppies somewhere safe. Half of them made it, but the other half got sick. I'm told that they found very good homes in the area.
From there, I stayed with a foster family for awhile, and eventually found my way to my new Mom and Dad! They love me very, very much and they give me lots of treats and belly rubs. I love to lay around the house and go hopping around the neighborhood. The neighbor kids love me, and the little girl across the way will tell anyone, "that's a nice dog, it doesn't even bite." I do like to lick though. I give great kisses!
Mom and Dad took me to the vet. This vet took some x-rays and talked to an orthopedic surgeon. They've decided that I will be much happier and healthier without my stuck leg. This way, I won't get terrible arthritis and start chewing on my own leg. I won't be able to help myself, they say.
So, they want to amputate my leg. I'm a little scared, but I know that this will be better for me.
