Ladies' Section – January 2013
Ladies’ Winter Competitions
The Winter Ringer Competition commenced in the first week of January 2013.
The winners of these Competitions are announced at the Annual General Meeting which will be on March 5th 2013.
Women in Golf Courses
In November and December 2012, we were very pleased to welcome twenty-four ladies to two courses of Women in Golf (WIG) classes. These classes give women who have not played golf and are keen to start, an opportunity to try playing the game. The courses are run over a period of four weeks with tuition provided by an Approved GPA coach. In Helen’s Bay, we were lucky enough to have the company of Ian Blair, professional in Grace Hill Golf Course. Ian was a very popular coach and indeed, several Helen’s Bay members had lessons with him as well. He returns on Tuesday January 22nd 2013 to join in a Scramble with combined teams of Helen’s Bay members and some of the ladies who did the WIG courses - probably in teams of three. Should be good fun.
Several of our WIG ladies have now moved on to take up an extended green fee the club is offering them for the next three months – we hope to see many of them out playing on their own very soon
Voices Together for the New Year
On Friday 18th January 2013, the Ladies’ Committee ran an afternoon event entitled: ‘Voices Together for the New Year’ with all proceeds going to the Integrated Education Fund (IEF), an independent charitable trust established for the development and growth of integrated education in Northern Ireland. ‘Voices Together’ was an afternoon of words & music and included talks by Baroness May Blood, Chair of Campaign, IEF; the author and historian Dr. Jonathan Bardon; Liam Logan, an Ulster-Scots enthusiast, and Roger Blaney, author of the seminal text Presbyterians and the Irish Language.
Musical input was provided by pupils of Bangor Central Integrated Primary School and Strangford Integrated College, Carrowdore.
Despite the unfavourable weather, this event was oversubscribed and a most enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
