Helen has played with the Parnassian Ensemble since its inception in 1998. The Ensemble has performed throughout the British Isles at such prestigious venues as the Purcell Room, St. David’s Hall and the Fairfield Halls. They have a particular interest in performing the music of the many composers living and working in London in the first half of the 18th century and their debut CD of the this repertoire, A Noble Entertainment – Music from Queen Anne’s London, was released to critical acclaim in 2006.
Hampshire Recorder Sinfonia
Helen has been Assistant Musical Director and Leader of the Hampshire Recorder Sinfonia since 1994. The orchestra gives several concerts each year in Hampshire and Sussex and Helen regularly takes on a solo role with the orchestra. HRS have recorded three critically acclaimed CDs, the third of which features a performance by Helen of the Sammartini Concerto in F major.
In recent years the orchestra has been involved in a musical exchange with the Dutch recorder orchestra Blokfluitensemble Praetorius Leiden. In 2002 BPL visited the UK to give two performances with the Sinfonia and in October 2003 HRS visited the Netherlands to perform there. While in The Netherlands they gave two concerts with BPL in The Hague and Leiden. The climax of both concerts was a joint performance of the Sammartini Concerto in F with Helen as soloists, the second performance of which elicited a standing ovation.
Phoenix Recorder Orchestra
Helen performs regularly with the Phoenix Recorder Orchestra, both as an orchestral player and soloist. She has a good working relationship with Steve Marshall, the orchestra’s resident composer, and often gives premiers of his new solo recorder works.
