I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Sam Houston State University.  I joined the faculty in the Fall of 2009.  My primary research interests are political participation and behavior, public opinion, competitive elections, media and politics, the status of women in the political science discipline, and political psychology.   I am currently writing many articles about the influence of competitive elections, entertainment media, and personality traits on political attitudes, as well as articles on how members of Congress use Twitter.  My book, "Competitive Elections and Democracy in America: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", was just published by Routledge in November 2013.

When I am not working on research, teaching, or service, I enjoy spending time with my family.
