Physical activity is important for a living a healthy life, but it doesn’t mean if has to be boring! The emphasis should always be on fun and enjoyment. Switch up your activities so you don’t get “stuck in a rut” doing the same actions. Remember, extended periods of inactivity are inappropriate and do not fit in to a healthy strong life.

Children and teens should do 1 hour or more of physical activity each day.

Current Recommendations for Adults:

  • Some is better than none! Exercises can be done in 10-minute intervals!
  • 150 min/week of moderate intensity or 75 mins/week of vigorous intensity
  • Muscle-strengthening activities 2 or more days/week

For best success:

  • Team up with a friend. It will keep you motivated and be more enjoyable!
    Walk your dog!
  • Pick activities that you like to do.
  • Track your time and progress.

Physical activity is essential to living a full healthy life, and it can be fun! Take a walk with your girl friends and catch up on the latest neighborhood gossip, or walk to the grocery store instead of taking the bus – double bonus when you carry the groceries home! Walk your dog. Physical activity doesn’t mean you have to exercise, it just means you should move around. Being active helps to lower stress and can improve your mood!

Your body will thank you.

The recommendations are from the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.
