Sámi knowledge, reindeer herding and a sustainable future
Welcome to the seminar day, which examines the current state of Sámi reindeer herding, Sámi know-how and the importance of self-sufficiency in building a sustainable future. During the day, current research information will be published, cinematic perspectives will be experienced, international guests will be heard and a joint discussion will be held on the power of Sámi knowledge in a changing world.

12:00-14:00 The reality of Sámi reindeer herding – Publication of the final report of the project mapping the well-being and resources of Sámi reindeer herders
The event will present the key results of the project and reflect on the well-being, coping and future prospects of reindeer herders in changing circumstances.

The films offer a visual and experiential perspective on the everyday life of reindeer herding, adaptation and the continuity of Sámi life.

The seminar “Sámi people based on self-reliance as the basis for a sustainable future of knowledge and skills” organized by the MÁHTUT project will present the project, present its results, and discuss self-sufficiency in the form of a panel discussion.

17:15- 18:00 Guests from Dartmouth University will talk about their trip from 18-28 March 2025 in Finland. The guests will introduce themselves and talk about their excursion trip ARCTIC SUSTAINABILITY IMMERSION TRIP, which is an annual study trip developed in collaboration with The Institute of Arctic Studies and the Dartmouth Sustainability Office. The goal of the trip is to learn about local and community-based sustainable transitions in the Arctic regions.

Welcome to participate and watch this year's lasso throwing competition!
Moving targets. Qualifications & finals. Women and men compete in different categories. Women throw from 7 meters and men from 9 meters. Youth from 6 meters. Separate categories for girls and boys. 14-17 year olds throw at moving posts, 10-13 year olds at stationary ones. Children throw at antlers. Youth and children categories: 14-17 years, 10-13 years, 7-9 years, 3-6 years.
Participation fee 20€ and registration in advance no later than 18.3.2026.
Youth and children free. Prize distribution after the competitions.
