High Definition Video for Community Purposes is a new workshop being taught in the Takoma Park Community Center, in Takoma Park, Maryland. The purpose of the workshop is to show and explain to the public that it's possible to create great looking Blu-Ray video disks (using inexpensive DVD media), without spending a lot of money.  This workshop will be taught using a $300 Canon Vixia high definition camcorder and Roxio Toast 11 disk burning software for Macintosh computers. The same kind of disks can be created using Windows computers as detailed in this PCWorld magazine article by Becky Waring.

Below is the official announcement for this workshop. You can register for this workshop  online with a credit card or by paper registration form (and check or cash). Registration forms can be mailed or brought in person to the Takoma Park Recreation Department Office, which is open 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday thru Friday, 7500 Maple Ave, Takoma Park, Maryland, 20912.  To register for this workshop online you have to first create an ActiveNet account. There's a link to do that at the top right side of the ActiveNet web site.

The new Takoma Park Community Center auditiorium is a lovely venue for this workshop as the auditorium can play Blu-Ray DVD's created in the workshop.  The video will show up on the large center screen in the auditorium and the audio will play via the high quality, large speakers in the auditorium.  For those who might be interested, I also teach this workshop by arrangement at other locations around the DC-area.
