Heritage Baptist Church was founded in 1983 as a confessional reformed Baptist congregation. We are a church that believes that our primary task is to gather every Lord’s Day under the headship of Christ for the preaching and reading of the Scriptures, for prayers of supplication and thanksgiving, for the observance of the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism, and for the mutual consideration of one another in order to stir up love and good works, all for the glory of our gracious Savior and for the strengthening and maturing of our church. We believe that when a biblically ordered church does these things the manifold wisdom of God is made known and the glorious and gracious Gospel is proclaimed to be truly glorious and truly gracious.
We use the term “reformed” to refer to our indebtedness to the Protestant reformation which sought to restore to the teaching of the church the true Gospel of which the doctrine of justification by faith alone in Christ alone as revealed in the Scriptures alone is essential. We use the term “Baptist” because we are convinced from the Scriptures that baptism is reserved for only those who have confessed repentance from their sins and confessed faith in Christ. We also use the term “Baptist” because we are convinced from the Scriptures that each local church is self-governed under the authority of God’s Word and that the leadership of the church is comprised of ordained elders and deacons.
We believe that our reformed and Baptistic convictions are best summarized in the 2nd London Confession of 1689, a document that shows that we stand in the stream of historic, orthodox Christianity and which provides us an agreed-upon basis for the wonderful unity and fellowship we enjoy.
