John George Keys was born on Jan 2, 1851 in Rock Camp, Ohio. He was the Lawrence County Commissioner for 2 terms of 3 years each. He bought the old family homestead and farm after his Mother Elizabeth Lambert Waller Keys died. He died on Dec. 7, 1931 in Coal Grove, Lawrence County, Ohio. The cause of death was a Cerebral Hemorrhage. He was buried about Dec. 9, 1931 next to his wife, Mary L. Allen Keys in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, Ohio.
He died at age 80 years, 11 months and 29 days. Lawrence County Record of Deaths Ledger 11-88 Register # 21. His early education was acquired in the public schools of the county and upon leaving school he went into the milling business at Rock Camp, and then took up farming in Perry Township. He served as treasurer of Perry Township for eight years and was elected County Commissioner on the Republican ticket and managed a splendid farm. Personally he is a man of fine address and intelligence. Being thoroughly conversant with the county and its needs and a man of progressive ideas, he has made a valued public servant and enjoys the confidence and respect of all, in the city or the farm."
John married Mary Lucretia Allen daughter of William H Allen on Mar 30 1870 in Rock Camo, Ohio. Mary was born on Feb 8 1853. She died on Dec 5 1924 in Rock Camp, Ohio. She was buried on Dec 8 1924 in Woodland Cemetery,Ironton, Ohio.
Obit Notice: Morning Irontonian, December 6, 1924, Saturday Page 5: Funeral Services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 for Mrs. John Keys (Mary Lucretia Allen), 70 of Rock Camp who passed away early Friday morning, Mrs. Keys is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs. Allen Sutton (Cora Ellen) of South Point; Mrs. Herbert Green (Elizabeth Roxy) of Cincinnati; Mrs. Newton G. Hill (Matilda Lois) of Coal Grove; Roscoe Keys of Ironton; Tracy Keys of Ironton; Mrs. Orville. W. Markin (Margaret L.) of Ironton; and Mrs. Frank Bruce (Lillian B.) of Ironton. One son, George Washington Allen Keys preceded her in death in 1908. Services will be held in the Ice Creek Baptist church, with Rev. T. F. Carey in charge. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Undertaker Phillips of Waterloo.

Death notice for Bertha Roush (Mrs. William Roscoe Keys)she died abt Feb. 4, 1919. Ironton Register, Feb. 4, 1919, Tuesday, Page 8. Mrs. Orville Markins of South 6th St.,(that is Margaret L. Keys) was informed by telegram Friday of the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Roscoe Keys of Jackson , Ohio. The deceased was before her marriage, Miss Bertha Roush and was well known in Ironton. Her husband is now employed as a motorman for the Ohio Valley line. Death was due to tuberculosis, after an illness of about 3 months. Mrs. Markin left today for Jackson to attend the funeral.

Obit: Ironton Register Thursday November 5, 1908:
George W. A. Keys, one of the best known teachers in this county answered the final summons Friday night about 9 o'clock after a long illness of typhoid fever, at his home at Dearing. Mr. Keys was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Keys and was born in Perry Township 36 years ago. He spent his boyhood days on a farm, attending district schools during the winter months. He obtained a certificate to teach school while quite young, and continued in the profession until his final illness, being engaged in teaching at Dearing when he took sick. He is survived by his wife and the following children; Elsie, Katie, Lydia and Oran aged 15, 11, 9 and 7 years respectively. Four of Mr. Keys children preceded him to the great beyond. At least one of 4 children is buried in Hecla Cemetery died August 25, 1905 and I can only trace it with these dates to being probably his child. No other GWK had or has lost babies in this time frame. Four of his children died before his death date of 1908. He is also survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Cora Sutton, Tracy, Maggie, Lillie of Rock Camp and Mrs. Roxa McKee and Mrs. Hill of Coal Grove and Roscoe Keys of this city and the bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community.
Mr. Keys was a consistent member of the Ice Creek Baptist Church, with which he united while he was quite young. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. of Rock Camp and the Knights of the Golden Eagle Lodge of Getaway.The funeral took place from the residence, the old William Brammer place beyond Dearing, Sunday at 10 o'clock a,m. Rev. B. S. Ayers of Catlettsburg, conducted the services. The burial will be at Gateway cemetery.
George married Elizabeth Brammer "Bettie". Elizabeth was born in 1869. She died in 1947. They had the following children:
i. Elsie M. Keys was born in Sept. 1893. She died before 1934.
ii. Kathryn or Catherine B. Keys was born on Aug 12 1897.
iii. Lydia Vivian Keys was born in Mar 1899.
iv. Oran B. Keys was born in 1901.
