About me

I head the cyber security, analytics and defences division at Fraunhofer SIT. I am also the scientific co-leader of the Fraunhofer SIT cyber security research center at the Hebrew university of Jerusalem. I am the director of the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) of the Fraunhofer Society.

Since 2014 I am a PI in Projekt S3 in SFB 1119 CROSSING.

Amon other activities, I am focusing on raising awareness to cyber attacks and promoting defences and security mechanisms against attacks in different communities and forums. Within that effort, I am a representative for Fraunhofer SIT at the NIS platform WG3 of the European Commission and an IEEE cyber security ambassador. 

I work on all the aspects of systems and network security, and mainly focus on identifying vulnerabilities in the Internet infrastructure and services, and on designing defences. Scientific community service

I am co-chairing ESORICS 2021 with Elisa Bertino.

In 2020 I organised and co-chaired with Radia Perlman the first ACM SIGCOMM workshop on traffic manipulation attacks.  In 2020 I also co-chaired CANS 2020 with Serge Vaudenay, in Wien, Austria.

The first ACM SIGCOMM ManTra’20 workshop was created to provide a venue for mature as well as for early stage research on traffic manipulation attacks and defences. The goal of the workshop is to deepen our understanding on the rising threat of traffic manipulation attacks and to explore defences. The renowned expert program committee will enable the authors to receive feedback for ripe as well as for innovative-early work in the area of traffic manipulation which will also help it mature into full-fledged submissions to top tier conferences and journals, see CFP for more info.

When time permits, I also serve on program committes of security conferences. This year on USENIX Security 2021.


Students interested in applied cyber security research in Darmstadt, can apply for pre-doc and post-doc positions at the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT).
