Here is an excerpt from Blue Hen's Yard Waste Guidelines communication:

"Effective January 1, 2011, Delaware Solid Waste Authority made changes regarding the collection of yard waste.  Yard waste may not be mixed with trash and must be collected separately.  The yard waste we collect is transported to Blue Hen Organics (BHO) where it is recycled under Department of Environmental Control, Beneficial Use Determination #30/040715.  Please go to bluehenorganics.com to learn more on the valuable service provided by BHO.  Based on recent regulatory and operational changes, BHO will no longer accept yard waste contained within plastic bags.

"Yard waste shall be defined as plant material coming from lawn maintenance and other gardening and landscaping activities including: grass leaves, prunings, shrubs, garden materials as well as branches, brush, and tree limbs up to two inches (2”) in diameter.  Yard waste must be contained in paper bags not to exceed the bag’s capacity or bundles not to exceed four (4’) feet in length and twenty five (25) pounds.

"EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2014 – PAPER BAGS ONLY – NO EXCEPTIONS

"Acceptable bags may be purchased at the following local retailers:  Homedepot.com, item # 49022; Lowes.com, item #99344, and Acehardware.com.  We recommend you purchase them well in advance for spring clean up."
