The Harrison County Historical Village & Welcome Center is 18 acre multi-faceted facility uniquely located on three byways - the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Byway and the Western Skies Scenic Byway.   Having its start as a museum in 1938, visitors may take self-guided tours to view more than 10,000 items in the five buildings located on the village grounds.  The Iowa Welcome Center provides information and assistance to visitors year-round with over 350 brochures including free Iowa maps and visitor guides, and a gift shop featuring Iowa souvenirs.  Visitors also enjoy free samples of cherry drink, made and bottled at the facility since in the 1930’s.  Other items of interest to guests include a one-mile walking trail through 14 acres of re-established prairie, an elevated handicap accessible observation deck, an outdoor transportation-themed play space, outdoor interpretive panels on the three byways and agriculture in Iowa, and a 30-seat indoor auditorium that shows both a Loess Hills and Lincoln Highway film.  The facility also hosts the Welcome Center Farmers Market on Thursday afternoons from mid-May to mid-October.
