Harvard Yard Market located near Memorial Hall at the corner of Oxford and Kirkland streets.  The market operates on Tuesdays from 1-6pm through October 31 (closed July 4).

General Markets

Broadway Marketplace 468 Broadway.  Small nearby store with some hard to find items...and it includes a liquor store.  They have a lunch/dinner/salad bar that is pretty good if you're looking for something quick and good.  It is also located next door to a Starbucks.  Biggest Downside: Kinda pricey.

FoodMaster Supermarket 45 Beacon St. (617) 660-1322.

Harvest Co-op Market  581 Mass Ave. (617) 661-1580.  Very customer friendly store.  If they don't have it, send it to them in their suggestion area and they'll work miracles!

Market Basket 400 Somerville Ave. (617) 666-2420.  "The meat, fish, produce, dairy and just about everything else is MUCH cheaper than any other local store...and with phenomenal turnover, everything seems to always be fresh, fresh, fresh."  Nan Hutton, ThD2. 

Savenor 92 Kirkland (at Beacon) (617) 876-7070.  "Once the butcher for Julia Child, this local jewel features organic fruits, vegies and superb meats.  While it may seem pricey, you can find good values closer than other organic providers.  It is worth checking out."  Nan Hutton, ThD2.

Shaw's Star Market offers general grocery merchandise.  The closest locations to the Div school are: 275 Beacon St.--a small store, but close by and it has all the basics; Porter Square--at least twice as big as the Beacon St. store and with more choices to match.

Trader Joe's universally accepted as one of the cheapest and best grocery stores in the area!!!  TJ's also has a liquor store.  It's a hike, but well worth it!

Whole Foods the organic and natural food chain.  115 Prospect St. (617) 492-0070  Cambridge store calendar.

Wine & Cheese Cask 407 Washington St. (corner of Kirkland & Beacon St.) (617) 623-8656.  "Fantastic selection of wine in all price ranges.  Also, good selection of beers, including hard to find imports.  Needless to say, you'll find a superb selection of cheese as well as a delectable selection of chocolates, cookies and gourmet goodies.  Great bread!"  Nan Hutton, ThD2.

African

Tropical Foods 2101 Washington St. Roxbury (617) 442-7439.  this large Boston market sells Caribbean, Spanish, West Indian and a number of African products.  Here you can get your gari and egusi and do the rest of your weekly shopping as well.  The carry palm oil, meats, fresh tropical produce, cosmetics and more.

Asian

CWH Company 55 Beach St. Boston (617) 426-3619. Carries ingredients for Chinese cooking.

Jin Mi Oriental Food 313 Walnut St. Newton (617) 964-2668. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, filipino and Vietnamese foods and spices.

Kotobukiya Market  (inside Porter Exchange) 1815 Mass. Ave.  Porter Exchange contains a variety of Japanese stores and shops that specialize in ramen, udon, sobo, donburi...oh, and sushi too!

Reliable Market  Union Square Somerville (617) 623-6914. A wide selection of Korean, Japanese and other Asian foods and spices, including fresh produce and prepared foods.

Super88 Market is an Asian market that has outstanding produce and is considered one of the cheapest markets in the Boston area, but it requires traveling on the T.  50 Herald St. (corner of Herald & Washington) Boston 02118  (617) 423-1688. tip & note: there are 6 Boston locations so another may be closer to you and there are all around great deals to be found in Chinatown.
